Who makes these heavy duty laptops?
All heavy duty laptops I sell are made by Panasonic in Japan or Taiwan. Toughbooks are the number one choice for military and police organizations around the world. The downside? Panasonic charges crazy prices for them new, anywhere in the region $3000-6000 USD each! This is where I come in. Refurbished units are much more affordable, and cost only a fraction of new. A true story of one strong laptop
I supply a large number of heavy duty laptops for marine navigation on leisure and fishing vessels. In 2019, a customer in Oregon purchased a 10 inch waterproof unit, and was quite happy with it. Unfortunately, around one year later he contacted me letting me know that his boat had sank. The unit was onboard, and stayed on the bottom of the Columbia River for around 24 hours. The work crews raised the boat up. Fortunately, the customer had shut all the port covers when he stored the unit down below. Understandably, some of the metal parts corroded, and the water had comprehensively soaked every part of it.
Next, he proceeded to dry it off and then just let it sit for a while, assuming it was a complete loss. Imagine his astonishment when he was able to turn it on as if nothing had happened. This is beyond the boundaries of what these strong laptops are designed to handle. Below is a picture of the Toughbook CF-19, the exact type of unit that took part in the ordeal above, and survived!
